Application:
Microbial DNA extraction from samples with a high yeast content
- The microbiological detection of beer spoiling bacteria and wild yeasts in the brewing process is an important part of hygiene monitoring in breweries. In particular, samples with high yeast cell counts (e.g. fermentation tank, storage tank, propagation) and autolytic by-products such as proteins, fats, polysaccharides pose are a major challenge. Taking these factors into account, a practical DNA extraction process was developed in cooperation with a brewery.
Advantages:
- The extraction of PCR-capable DNA from such samples is therefore possible in comparison to other commercially available DNA extraction kits and leads to higher sensitivity
- Possible with and without pre-enrichment
Principle:
- Dilution of the sample and enzymatic removal of inhibitory components
- Lysis of the cells and PCR take place simultaneously
